Women "Assisting Ex-Inmates To A Better Life" Classes Available Samaritan Women offers a variety of classes to help women develop basic living skills with the goal of becoming self-reliant, Godly women and productive contributors to their families, churches and communities. The following are a sampling of some of the classes offered on an ongoing basis: A.A. Meetings - An official AA meeting is held every Thursday at the Samaritan Women center. AA is a 12-step recovery program that serves as a support group to help individuals who have suffered from alcoholism. All women in the community are invited to participate in this class where there is a topic discussion is held at each meeting. Anger Resolution - This course teaches the Biblical way to control emotions. Women learn how to overcome destructive patterns in dealing with anger. This class is an eight-week commitment. Bible Study/Support - Each Wednesday morning at Fresno Evangelical Free Church, women are coming together to fellowship, support each other, and are challenged to memorize Scripture and grow to apply the Word of God to daily life. Bible Basics - During this class, the women are given an opportunity to understand the Bible and freely ask questions. Boundaries - This is a 12-week class based on Biblical principles, with the goal of helping you become the person God has intended you to be, discovering what your responsibilities are and are not in a relationship, and learning to develop support systems to establish and maintain healthy boundaries. Celebrate Recovery - This world renowned 12 step Christ-centered recovery program aims to help people overcome their “hurts, habits and hang-ups.” It has proven to be a cherished tool to our clients, and our organization as a whole. There are two weekly meetings held at the Center. College for Free - Signing up for school can be a challenging task but with the help of volunteers from Fresno City College navigating all the paperwork and decisions becomes bearable. For help with registration, financial aide, career path counseling or for help in any other aspect of college life this is the place to be. Extraordinary People - Here at Samaritan Women we feel that re-building the confidence of our clients is one of the keys to their success. Through the love of God and encouragement from others around we believe that we may all be extraordinary people. This class offers glimpses into how to begin the journey. Fun Fellowship Friday - Once a month, on the second Friday of each month, all the Samaritan Women gather for a fellowship time and teaching to learn how to have good, clean fun with others. Families are welcome. A special program is offered for young children. Health, Looking Your Best - We all know that looking and feeling our best is a great way to build self esteem and that having a healthy body should be a top priority. Through this class on health and appearance, women are able to better prepare themselves for the job world and build the confidence they need to hold their heads high, while building their knowledge on nutrition. Life Skills - These classes are designed to give practical working skills to assist in everyday life in the areas of goal setting, problem solving, assertiveness and communication, relationship skills, and self-esteem.. The classes are structured with practice activities, information, and discussion. Mayor's Job Initiative - Mayor’s Job Initiative Coordinator Darryl Du’Chene holds a class here at Samaritan Women on how to find a job. With leads on jobs in the community, and great advice on professionalism Mr. Du’Chene is able to make a big impact for our clients. Money Management - God wants us to be good stewards of the money He provides. This class teaches good budgeting techniques. Nutrition - As our bodies are God’s gift to each of us, women learn how to take proper care of them through proper nutrition and care so they keep healthy. Recipes are demonstrated. Parenting - An excellent class which helps women learn new skills to become a better parent is offered free at Samaritan Women Center and is Court approved.
