Samaritan Women has developed programs to help meet the spiritual and physical needs of women as they come back into the community. Another effective way for you to have an impact on the lives of these women is by volunteering your time. Some of our volunteer needs are as follows:
· Mentor/Buddy: Women who make decisions for Christ in jail/prison have a tough road ahead of them once they are released. Not only must they overcome the temptations of the past and prove to family and friends that their life change is for real, but often they don't have the support they will need to start a new life on the outside. They need a mentor to come alongside them with spiritual encouragement and practical help and advise. Time commitment: 6 months with 8 hours of training
· Transportation: Many times lack of transportation is the only reason our women will not be able to attend our Bible study classes at the Center. Sometimes they need rides to job interviews or appointments. Time commitment: Once a week, once a month, or as often as you can
· Pen Pal: Corresponding with inmates that are in prison for an extended period of time can be a great encouragement to those who have made a decision to follow Christ. Letters mailed to you from the inmate are addressed to a post office box and forwarded to you by our coordinator. Time commitment: One or more letters once a month
· Class Instructors: We need instructors for classes. Time Commitment: 1 hour per week
· Computer Assistant: People are needed who can produce computer-generated materials. Time commitment: flexible
· Tutors: Tutors are needed for adults and children. Time commitment: 1-2 hours a week
· Samaritan Women Boutique: Volunteers are needed who will sort, organize, and distribute our clothing. Time Commitment: 1-3 hours a week
Office Help at the Center: We need help with a variety of front office duties including answering the telephone, greeting visitors, and assisting staff. Time commitment: 3-4 hours a week
· Donation Helper: Volunteers are needed to pick up/deliver donations, especially furniture. Time commitment: Flexible · Miscellaneous: If we have missed any of your gifts and abilities, we welcome your suggestions on how you can help.
